Welcome to a virtual field trip of the Mitchell
Prehistoric Indian Village located at Mitchell, South Dakota. In this tour, a story
line is used involving imaginary Indian children who have come from the past and
find that an archeological dig is occurring on the location of their former village.
This story is divided into three parts.
Part I gives some background of the people who lived in the
village. It also introduces the children and two archeologists involved in the
digging.
Part II introduces the children to the Archeodome. This is a
climate-controlled structure built over part of the dig. Digging can then be done
year round.
Part III centers on the daily life of the prehistoric Indians of
the area and is based upon information found at the dig site.
We hope that you enjoy the field trip and will be able to visit the Mitchell Prehistoric
Indian Village.
